Police nab man for killing his Ghanaian friend for money ritual
On Friday, the Osun Police Command announced the arrest of a 50-year-old man accused of killing his ailing Ghanaian friend for a money ritual.
SP Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, informed journalists at the command headquarters in Osogbo that the suspect allegedly slit the victim’s throat and removed it post-mortem.
“On July 18, at around 3:00 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Oke-Odo Division, Osogbo, received information about the murder of a Ghanaian man by an unknown individual,” Opalola stated.
Police detectives launched an investigation and identified Kehinde Ganiyu, the deceased’s close friend, as the prime suspect.
“Ganiyu confessed to the crime, revealing that on July 9, around 9:00 p.m., he visited the victim’s home with a knife. Finding him asleep due to illness, he slaughtered him and removed his throat,” Opalola recounted.
The suspect allegedly dried the throat for three days before taking it to a secluded bush known as Igbo Imese Aiwosi Area in Oba-Oke village. There, he burned it in a clay pot with other ritual items, later mixing the ashes with soap for a money ritual known as OSOLE.
Opalola confirmed that Ganiyu claimed to have acted alone, and investigations are ongoing.
In related operations, the Osun Police Command arrested a 60-year-old blacksmith in Ada town for allegedly manufacturing single-barrel guns and supplying ammunition to criminals. During his arrest, two individuals believed to be his customers were also detained.
