Labourers feared dead as building collapses in Jigawa
A tragic incident has struck Taura Local Government Area in Jigawa State, where a building under construction collapsed, resulting in the deaths of three labourers.
The incident was confirmed by the Police Command in Jigawa through a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawan Shiisu.
The collapse occurred around 10 a.m. in Gujungu town, prompting a swift response from the local police. Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered the collapsed structure was a two-storey building still under construction.
The tragic event claimed the lives of Nafi’u Mohd, 28, from Rijiyar Zaki in Ungogo LGA of Kano State, Abdurrahman Ibrahim, 60, and Usaman Lawan Muhammad, 62, both from Danmadai village in Gagarawa LGA of Jigawa State.
In addition to the fatalities, four others were injured in the collapse. The injured, identified as Umar Lawan, 26, Aminu Mohd, 25, Mudansir Nasiru, 26, and Usman Mohd, 20, all residents of Rijiyar Zaki in Ungogo LGA of Kano State, were rushed to Jahun General Hospital for treatment.
The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP A.T Abdullahi, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery. Preliminary investigations suggest the victims were labourers working at the construction site when the tragedy occurred.
