Officer killed as Boko Haram attack police station, loots armoury in Borno
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents raided the Jakana Police Station in Borno State’s Konduga Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of a policeman and a woman.
The assailants made off with a significant cache of arms and ammunition after arriving at the station around 1:00 am, catching the security personnel off guard.
A fierce gun battle ensued for several hours, during which the insurgents overpowered the officers, looted the armory, and set fire to two patrol vehicles and a motorcycle.
One of the destroyed vehicles belonged to the police, while the other was used by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Konduga Local Government Chairman, Hon Abbas Ali Abari, confirmed the incident and promised to provide further details as they become available.
Efforts to contact the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, Nahun Kenneth, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or messages.
Jakana is located approximately 45 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, along the Damaturu-Maiduguri expressway.
