Bandits ambush troops, kill four soldiers in Sokoto
Suspected bandits have ambushed Nigerian Army troops in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in the death of four soldiers.
The incident was disclosed by Umar Balle, the sole administrator of the council, on Sunday.
Balle, who was also caught in the ambush, managed to escape the attack by a narrow margin.
He said, “So far, four soldiers died and seven others wounded as a result of gunshots in addition to the burning of their vehicle.
“About six to seven soldiers sustained severe injuries as a result of the insurgents’ attack.
“The injured security personnel who were initially attended to at Gudu General Hospital before they were referred to the Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto on Sunday.”
The member representing Gudu at the state House of Assembly, Yahya Gudu, who also confirmed the attack, said the assailants burnt down two patrol vehicles of the operatives.
“Yes, it is truth. Some gunmen ambushed soldiers on patrol along the Kukurau-Bangi road on Saturday and killed four of them while two others were injured. They also burnt down their patrol vehicles,” he said.
It was further gathered that more security personnel had already been deployed to the area as a result of the incident.
Efforts to get the reaction of the state government were not successful as the special adviser on security matters to the Sokoto State Governor, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd ), could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
