BREAKING: Council of State backs Tinubu, condemns recent protests

The Council of State, which includes former Presidents and Heads of State, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, serving and retired Chief Justices of Nigeria, as well as state governors, has passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The decision was made during a meeting held on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In a significant move, the council described the recent protests against hunger and poor governance as an insurrection and a movement aimed at regime change.

Among the former leaders who endorsed President Tinubu were Generals Yakubu Gowon, Muhammadu Buhari, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The meeting saw former Presidents Buhari and Jonathan attending in person, while Generals Gowon and Abubakar joined virtually. However, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida were notably absent, with no explanation given for their absence.

After the meeting, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), briefed the media.

He stated that the council unanimously passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu for his governance and expressed satisfaction with the economic progress reported by various ministers.

Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Mineral Development, praised President Tinubu for resisting any attempts at a forceful takeover of the government.

The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, briefed the council on the security situation, emphasizing the importance of upholding democracy through legitimate means rather than insurrection.

Additionally, Finance Minister Wale Edun updated the council on economic progress, highlighting efforts in economic diversification. Seven ministers presented reports on advancements in various sectors, underscoring the administration’s commitment to national development.
