Identities of abducted Medical and Dental Students in Benue revealed

The identities of the 20 medical and dental students, along with a House Officer, who were kidnapped by gunmen in Benue State have been disclosed.

The students were en route to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu when they were abducted.

The identities were shared on X.com (formerly Twitter) by a user known as SportsDokita (@Sports_Doctor2). The news of the abduction had earlier been reported by News360 Nigeria, sending shockwaves through the academic and medical communities.

These students, who were reportedly from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were ambushed around 5:30 p.m. in the Otukpo area of Benue State. The revelation of their identities has intensified calls for their immediate rescue and safe return.

The incident has highlighted the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, particularly the growing trend of kidnappings, which continue to pose significant risks to the safety of citizens. Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to locate and rescue the abducted students, with the Benue State Police Command already launching an investigation.

The students, said to be from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, were travelling together when they were ambushed by gunmen around 5:30pm in the Otukpo area of the state.

The State police command which confirmed the incident, said investigation it had launched investigation into the abduction.
