Ex-Sweden coach Janne Andersson set to lead Super Eagles

Jan Olof ‘Janne’ Andersson, the former coach of Sweden, is reportedly set to become the new head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, according to an exclusive report by SCORENigeria.

Andersson, 61, led Sweden from 2016 to 2023, successfully qualifying the team for the 2018 World Cup and the 2020 Euros.

However, he faced setbacks in his later years, failing to secure a spot in both the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Euros.

His choice means that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has made a fresh choice for the Super Eagles top post outside the four previously shortlisted coaches – Herve Renard, Eric Chelle, Tom Saintfiet and Steve McClaren.

The last Swede to coach the Super Eagles was Lars Lagerback, who took charge of the country’s team to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where we failed to go past the first round of the tournament.

Another Swede coach, Thomas Denerby, was also in charge of the Super Falcons to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
