Ex-Borno cooperatives chief registrar, family members die in Maiduguri fire outbreak
Former Chief Registrar of the Borno Cooperatives Society, Mallam Garba Abubakar, his wife, and two female family members tragically lost their lives in a fire that broke out in their compound on Damboa Road, Maiduguri.
The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday, with sources attributing the cause of the fire to a power surge from a public power source.
Garba Abubakar, also known as Gabson, was reported to have perished along with his wife and two other female relatives in the devastating blaze.
A source, said: “The deceased retired as a Chief Registrar of Cooperative Societies with the Borno State Government and later worked with a private borehole drilling company.
“Not long a go, we spoke extensively on contemporary issues and I assured him that I would visit him in his new house whenever I happen to be in Maiduguri. Not knowing that was the last time I would hear his voice.”
