Akwa United rallies behind Enugu Rangers ahead of CAF Champions League clash
Akwa United Football Club has directed all its staff and players to show their support for Nigeria Premier Football League Champions, Enugu Rangers International, as they face Zilimadjou of Comoros in the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round match.
The match is set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
Enugu Rangers, who secured a narrow 1-0 victory in the first leg last Sunday, are determined to complete the double over their opponents to advance to the next round of the competition.
During a visit by Enugu Rangers’ General Manager, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, to Akwa United’s clubhouse in Uyo on Thursday, Akwa United’s Chairman, Elder Paul Bassey, expressed his team’s full support for the Nigerian champions.
Elder Bassey emphasized that it is Akwa United’s responsibility to back Enugu Rangers and all other Nigerian clubs representing the country in continental competitions.
“In the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity, it is our responsibility as a club and by extension the duty of all football lovers in Akwa Ibom State and in Nigeria to come together, cheer and support Nigerian league champions to fly the country’s flag higher in this year’s CAF Champions League.
“Enugu Rangers is playing on our home ground and at this level, they are representing our dear country, and we owe them that support. We may not be able to go to other venues to physically support all other representatives but since Rangers are here in Uyo, we have to make them feel at home and get favourable results in all their matches”.
The General Manager of Enugu Rangers Barrister Amobi Ezeaku thanked the Management of Akwa United and the football fraternity in Akwa Ibom State for the warm reception and support given to his team and called for more support on Friday.
“On behalf of Enugu Rangers International, I want to sincerely commend the government and the wonderful people of Akwa Ibom State for the show of love and support to our team since we arrived here in Uyo for our games.
We are really having a great time and we want more of your support on Friday as we aim to make it to the next round of this competition”.
The encounter will kick-off at 3pm.
