BREAKING: Bruno Labbadia named as Super Eagles head coach 

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of German tactician Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s men’s national football team.

The decision, reported by News360 Nigeria, follows months of searching for a suitable replacement for former coach Finidi George.

In a statement released by the NFF on Tuesday morning, it was confirmed that Labbadia has agreed to take on the role immediately.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, emphasized that the appointment was approved by the NFF Executive Committee based on the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

Who is Bruno Labbadia?

Bruno Labbadia, a former striker, had an illustrious playing career, featuring for top German clubs such as FC Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen, and Bayern Munich.

He enjoyed notable success, winning the DFB-Pokal with Kaiserslautern and the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich.

Labbadia also earned two caps for the German national team before retiring in 2003.

Transitioning into coaching, the 58-year-old has exclusively managed clubs within Germany, including Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburger SV, and Wolfsburg.

His most recent role was with VfB Stuttgart, where he was appointed in December 2022 but was dismissed in April 2023 after the team dropped to the bottom of the Bundesliga table.

Labbadia now faces the challenge of leading the Super Eagles in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Rwanda next month.

His extensive experience in German football will be crucial as he takes charge of one of Africa’s most prominent national teams.
