Amadein Tibiebi: Bayelsa PDP chieftain arrested for illegal firearm possession

The police in Bayelsa State have arrested Mr. Amadein Tibiebi, the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, for alleged illegal possession of a firearm.

Tibiebi, a former militant and self-styled “general,” is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation at the state police command. His arrest is linked to a prior incident in November 2021, when Richard Okon was detained for allegedly possessing firearms illegally at a wake-keeping event. In a confessional video, Okon claimed he was working with Tibiebi and that the gun belonged to him.

Tibiebi, who serves as the nephew and Chief Security Officer to Senator Cleopas Moses, who represented Bayelsa Central in the 9th Senate, had previously been questioned by the police. During that time, he reportedly presented fake licenses and forged documents, leading to his release due to his connections with high-ranking members of the state PDP and government.

However, a new petition prompted Tibiebi’s current arrest, and he is now being interrogated for illegal possession of a firearm and forgery of a firearm license. Reports suggest that Tibiebi had been openly confident about evading legal consequences due to his ties with state PDP executives and the government.
