Woman dies during buttocks enlargement surgery in Lagos clinic
A 36-year-old woman, known only as Abiola, tragically lost her life while undergoing a buttocks enlargement procedure at a clinic in the Lekki-Phase 1 area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred around 3 pm on Monday, has sent shockwaves through the community.
The procedure, commonly referred to as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), involves transferring fat from other parts of the body to the buttocks to enhance its shape.
Abiola had left her home in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ibeju Lekki, and instructed her driver to take her to the clinic for the cosmetic surgery.
According to a police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, upon arriving at the clinic, a nurse administered an injection to Abiola as directed by the clinic owner. Shortly after, she lost consciousness and began struggling to breathe. She was quickly transported to a hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where she was sadly pronounced dead.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and revealed that a suspect connected to the case was arrested on Tuesday. The tragic event highlights the potential risks associated with cosmetic procedures and raises concerns about the practices at certain medical facilities.
Hundeyin said, “The private driver of the deceased reported the incident to the Maroko division. Our officers visited the scene and the body was sent to a public morgue for an autopsy. The nurse who injected the deceased has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing.”
