Weeks after the arrest of Okuama community leaders, armed soldiers reportedly launched an assault on the town in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State early Monday morning.

According to a resident who spoke with Vanguard from hiding, the military personnel entered the community through Okoloba after using drones to conduct surveillance on Sunday. The resident described the soldiers shooting indiscriminately at anything in sight.

A video shared with News360 Nigeria shows a community youth lamenting the situation, pleading with the government for immediate intervention to halt the violence.

According to our source, “As I speak, soldiers and some youths have stormed our community, shooting at anything in sight. They parked their boats at Okoloba and came on foot. The small tents we have built are being razed.

“Everyone is in disarray; I can’t find my child; why are we being treated in this manner?

“Why will soldiers team up with our enemies to attack us? Our leaders were arrested weeks ago, and now they have come to sack the community,” he said.

The source could not immediately explain what has led to the latest invasion.

Details shortly.
