Agunechemba raids gunmen’s hideout in Anambra, scores feared dead
Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security outfit, Agunechemba, in collaboration with other security forces, has raided a notorious operational base of gunmen and kidnappers in Anambra State, leaving several suspects feared dead.
The operation, which took place around 1 a.m. on Thursday at Enugu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area, saw many criminals fleeing with injuries while security operatives recovered a cache of weapons and other items.
Since its inauguration, Agunechemba, modeled after the infamous Bakassi Boys of the late Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju’s era, has successfully dismantled at least six criminal camps in the state.
According to sources, the latest raid was intelligence-driven and led to the arrest of one suspected gunman. Items recovered from the hideout included:
2 AK-47 rifles
8 pump-action guns
4 locally made pistols
3 packets of cartridges (101 rounds)
4 empty AK-47 magazines
3 cutlasses
1 Baofeng radio
1 motorcycle
Several charms
A senior police officer in Anambra, who confirmed the development, stated that the operation was a coordinated effort between the Agunechemba squad, the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the military.
“Anambra must be free again. The Governor has given us the mandate to secure the state, and that’s exactly what we are doing. These criminals must bow,” the officer said.
Attempts to reach Anambra Police Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, for official confirmation were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
