The Joint Tax Board (JTB) has announced new rates for the issuance of national driver’s licences and vehicle number plates, which will take effect on 1st November 2024.

This adjustment is aimed at improving the quality and security features of these identification items, bringing them in line with international standards.

According to the revised rates, Nigerians will now pay N15,000 for a three-year motor vehicle driver’s licence and N21,000 for a five-year licence. Motorcycle and tricycle operators will also experience an increase, with a three-year licence costing N7,000 and a five-year licence priced at N11,000.

Private and commercial vehicle number plates will now cost a minimum of N30,000, while fancy number plates are set at N400,000. Motorcycle number plates will cost N12,000, and dealer vehicle number plates are now priced at N100,000. The government has also adjusted the prices for fancy and standard number plates: government fancy motor vehicle number plates will now cost N120,000, and the standard version will be N80,000. Government fancy motorcycle number plates will cost N50,000, with the standard set at N20,000.

Olusegun Adesokan, the Secretary of the JTB, emphasized that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will play a crucial role in educating the public about these changes. The JTB is confident that public engagement will help ensure the smooth implementation of these new rates, which aim to enhance security and identification processes across Nigeria.

This price review reflects the government’s commitment to improving road safety and the integrity of identification systems nationwide.
