Amotekun foils robbery attempt in Ogun, kills one, arrests two

The Ogun State Security Network, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, successfully intercepted a gang of robbers near Southwestern University along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway on Sunday.
The encounter resulted in a gun battle, during which one suspect was neutralized while two others were apprehended.
According to reports, one of the arrested suspects, Amechi Okoro, confessed that he had recently been released from the Ikoyi Correctional Centre just last Monday.
Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), the Corps Commander, confirmed the development in a statement issued to journalists.
“A suspect, Amechi Okoro, arrested during the gun duel with the corps, led operatives to their hideout, which resulted in the arrest of another gang member, Michael Oko, who had earlier escaped from the crime scene,” Adedigba stated.
“During interrogation, Okoro confessed that he had just been released from Ikoyi Prison last Monday, while Oko stated that he was recruited into the gang by their ringleader, known as Awuha.”
The Corps Commander noted that the robbers were part of an armed gang terrorising the Odogbolu axis of the Lagos-Benin Expressway.
Items recovered from them included a motorcycle with plate number Lagos KTU 668, 12 mobile phones, two locally made pistols, a sum of N113,050, a silver wristwatch, and a red headset.
He explained that Oko hails from Anambra State but resides at No. 3 Olufuwa Street, Ago Iwoye, while Okoro, who previously lived in the Agric area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, is originally from Onitsha, also in Anambra State.
Adedigba disclosed that the body of the deceased had been evacuated by the police.
He added that the two arrested suspects would be transferred to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
