Terhile Timothy Achinya, a Mechanical Engineering student at Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia, Nasarawa State, has reportedly died after being allegedly tortured by Nigerian Army officers on accusations of cultism.

According to Jacob John Mutuwa, President of the Students Union Government (SUG), soldiers were alerted by a student named Samuel Ejembi about suspected cult activities. Achinya and several others were subsequently arrested at Eji World, an entertainment center near the campus.

Mutuwa disclosed that Achinya died after being beaten by the soldiers, and his body was later taken to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia. Despite the tragedy, Mutuwa praised students for maintaining peace and confirmed that legal action is being taken against those responsible.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has also called for justice, alleging that soldiers from the 123 Special Force Battalion were involved. The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing into the incident.
