APC sweeps Sokoto Local Government polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all 23 chairmanship and councillorship seats in  Local Government elections of Sokoto State, held last Saturday.

The results were officially announced on Monday by Alhaji Aliyu Suleiman, the chairman of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SSIEC).

Suleiman revealed that 15 political parties participated in the elections, although the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the main opposition in the state, did not contest.

Following the results, the commission immediately issued certificates of return to the newly elected chairmen.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu is expected to swear in the new chairmen later today at 4 p.m.

This decisive victory for the APC further consolidates the party’s political dominance in Sokoto State, reinforcing its hold on local government administration.
