Atiku, Mark left PDP after failed bid to hijack party – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that key political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark exited the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) due to their inability to take control of the party’s leadership structure.
Speaking during a media chat on Thursday, Wike asserted that the departures were motivated by failed personal ambitions rather than ideological disagreements.
He claimed that David Mark had aspired to become the PDP’s national chairman, but after being denied the opportunity, chose to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Wike criticized the motives behind the new coalition formed by the defectors, suggesting that it was largely composed of political figures who were disgruntled and desperate because they were no longer in positions of authority.
“Nigerians need to be careful of these group of Nigerians who are angry because they left power.
“Nigerians know everybody. For how long would you continue to deceive them? Who would want to give listening to these kind of people?” he stated.
He added that the opposition has decimated itself ahead of the general elections in 2027.
“The opposition has decimated themselves,” he said.
Recall that David Mark, Atiku, and others recently adopted the African Democratic Congress as a coalition to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
