Atiku’s top ally Segun Showunmi, visits Tinubu in Lagos

Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 presidential race, has paid a surprise Sallah visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence.

The Ogun State-born politician, who also sought the PDP governorship ticket in the last elections, shared a photo from the visit via his X handle on Sunday.

Accompanying the image of himself alongside Tinubu was a message that read, “Sallah Day 3! I spent quality time with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, @officialABAT GCFR. It was engaging and nostalgic.”

Showunmi revealed that the meeting was part of his Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and created room for what he called reflective, engaging discussions with the president.

His visit comes amid a noticeable pattern of high-profile defections and political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly with figures previously associated with Atiku and the PDP.

In November 2023, Tinubu appointed Daniel Bwala, another former Atiku campaign spokesperson, as his Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media, a move that raised eyebrows within both APC and PDP ranks.
