Bandits abduct over 10 in Zamfara community, demand N50 Million ransom
In a tragic turn of events, bandits attacked Moriki community in Zamfara State on Wednesday night, abducting over 10 residents.
The criminals have demanded a ransom of N50 million for the release of the kidnapped individuals.
The incident was confirmed by the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar.
He assured the public that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a swift response, directing operatives to take immediate action to rescue the victims.
A resident of Moriki, speaking to the BBC Hausa Service on Thursday, revealed that this is not the first time the community has faced such attacks.
He mentioned that the bandits have been a persistent threat, having previously kidnapped other locals in the area.
” The bandits claimed that their cows were killed by the Commander in the community. They attacked the community and went from house to house picking our people,and gave today as the deadline for us to pay the N50 million,” he said.
He said any time they needed money,the bandits had often, attacked the community to kidnap people and kept them in captivity until ransom was paid.
” Not long ago, they collected N20 million from community members to allow the locals access their farms. The community is not secured at all ,” he said.
