The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, who has been terrorizing parts of the Northwest.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, the Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Emeka Onumajuru, assured Nigerians that Turji is being closely monitored and will soon be taken down.

“As I speak, Bello Turji is in complete hiding, and the armed forces are tracking him. Very soon, he will be eliminated,” Onumajuru stated.

He urged Nigerians to be patient, emphasizing that tracking and neutralizing a high-profile criminal like Turji requires time but will be accomplished soon.

‘Do Not Pay Levies to Turji’ – Military Warns Sokoto Residents

Reports have emerged that Turji is imposing taxes on residents of Isa Local Government Area in Sokoto State. Last week, a Sokoto State lawmaker, Honourable Aminu Almustapha Boza, confirmed that the bandit leader is operating freely in the forests of the region, extorting money from locals.

However, Major General Onumajuru urged Sokoto residents to reject these levies, assuring them of the military’s protection.

“The communities must believe that the armed forces are protecting them. Do not pay protection money or ransom because our troops are on the ground to ensure your safety,” he added.
