‘Better Days Ahead’ – Ruben Amorim apologises to Man United fans after UEL defeat

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has apologised to supporters for what he described as a “disaster” of a season, while assuring them that better times lie ahead for the club.

United ended their Premier League campaign in a disappointing 15th position, their lowest league finish since the club was relegated in 1974.

The misery deepened last Wednesday after a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, which confirmed United would miss out on European football next season for just the second time in 35 years.

Addressing fans after a 2-0 home win against Aston Villa in their final game of the season, Amorim, who took over in November, admitted responsibility for the team’s poor run and urged supporters to stay hopeful.

“I want to apologise for this season. I know you are really disappointed with me and with the team,” the Portuguese manager said.

“But now we have to make a choice. We either remain stuck in the past, because this season is in the past, it’s over, or we stick together and move forward.

“Six months ago after my first three games in charge with two victories and a draw, I told you ‘the storm is coming’. Today, after this disastrous season, I want to tell you the good days are coming.

“If there’s one club in the world that can overcome any season, any disaster, it is our club, it is Manchester United.”

United’s faithful will be hoping Amorim can turn things around and restore the club’s reputation after one of its darkest campaigns in modern history.
