Born in 1974 in Niger State, Nigeria, Mohammed Bago is of the Nupe descent.
He went to Federal Government College in Jos and Marafa Primary School in Minna.
He completed his political science bachelor’s degree at Usman Danfodio University in Sokoto.
He earned an MBA in economics from Ambrose Ali University in Ekpoma in 2003, a postgraduate diploma in management from the Federal University of Technology Minna in 2001, and a master’s degree in finance from the University of Calabar in 2005.
In addition, he graduated with honors from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in 2014.
The London Graduate School awarded him a certification in 2020 as a Management specialist with a distinction in time management.
He received his doctorate in 2001 and is a fellow of the African School of Diplomacy and International Relations in Abuja, in collaboration with ESTAM University Republic of Benin, in the fields of Humanity and Political Economy.
Career
Prior to entering politics, Bago held positions with a number of financial institutions.
During this period, he acquired sufficient knowledge and skills to inspire him for future leadership roles.
Among his employers were First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Afri-Bank PLC, and United Bank for Africa (UBA).
He served as manager at First City Monument Bank.
Politics
In 2011, under the umbrella of the Congress for Progressive Change and was elected into the House of Representatives to represent Chanchaga Federal Constituency.
He was chosen for a third term in office in both 2015 and 2019.
He diligently served on several House Committees during his time. In 2023, he ran for Niger State governor on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, and he won 469,896 votes against 387,476 for Alh. Isah Liman Kantigi of the People’s Democratic party.
Private life
Mohammed Bago is a devout Muslim and is married to Fatima Bago and together they have three children.
He is also a philanthropist who oversees a foundation that he has used to provide real assistance to his state’s indigenous people.
