The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully carried out a series of airstrikes, neutralizing a significant number of terrorists in Kaduna and Zamfara states, while also targeting and destroying 25 illegal refining sites in Imo and Rivers States.

These operations were confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF.

According to Gabkwet, the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch remains committed to eradicating the terrorist elements responsible for the recent surge in violent activities, including attacks that have led to civilian casualties, abductions, and cattle rustling in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. Intelligence reports revealed that these terrorists had relocated from Alawa Forest in Niger to Malum Forest in Kaduna State’s Igabi Local Government Area.

On August 21, NAF conducted an air interdiction mission targeting the terrorists’ stronghold in Malum Forest. Initial assessments and local reports indicate that the airstrikes successfully neutralized several terrorists.

In Zamfara State, airstrikes were also conducted on terrorist hideouts in Bayan Ruwa, Maradun Local Government Area. The terrorists, who were tracked to structures with zinc roofs in a vegetated area near a river, were engaged in successive airstrikes, resulting in their elimination.

In the Niger Delta, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe successfully destroyed 25 illegal refining sites and overhead tanks located in Ohaji/Egbema in Imo State, as well as in Degema and the Cawthorne Channel in Rivers State. Additionally, a leaking pipeline was observed in Greenville, Rivers State, causing a significant environmental spill over 150 meters, damaging vegetation, aquatic habitats, and farmlands.

These operations underscore NAF’s continued efforts to combat terrorism and illegal activities across the country, aiming to restore peace and security in affected regions.
