BREAKING: Atiku, El-Rufai, Fayemi, other opposition leaders form coalition against Tinubu

Ahead of the 2027 general election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has joined forces with prominent political figures, including some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to form a new coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu.

The announcement was made during an ongoing press conference attended by key opposition figures. Representing the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was Yunusa Tanko.

Other notable attendees included former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal; former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai; National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties, Peter Ahmeh; and Segun Showunmi, the convener of The Alternative.

The coalition, which brings together members from different political backgrounds, is expected to serve as a formidable force against the APC in the next election. However, analysts have raised concerns over the potential challenges of uniting figures with differing political ideologies under a single platform.

As the 2027 election draws closer, this alliance could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape, setting the stage for a fierce contest against the incumbent administration.

Among those whose apologies were announced are former governors Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), and the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, among others.
