BREAKING: Blackout looms as Nigeria’s power grid suffers major collapse
Nigeria’s power grid has suffered another collapse, reducing the country’s electricity generation to a mere 0.80 megawatts, according to reports from Daily Trust.
The Independent System Operator, part of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), showed a significant decline in power plant contributions. At 2 pm, the grid’s output had dropped to 2,797.16 MW from an average of 3,417.99 MW recorded at 1 pm.
By 3 pm, electricity generation had further decreased to 1,020.08 MW, before plummeting to 0.80 MW at 4 pm, with the Trans-Amadi Power Plant being the sole contributor to the grid at that time.
This marks the fourth time Nigeria’s power grid has collapsed in 2024.
