The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is reportedly set to release popular social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, Today, with plans to formally arraign him in court on Thursday.

A senior official of the commission, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the development on Monday, explaining that although Otse is still in EFCC custody, no official charges have been filed against him yet.

This update comes amid growing public criticism following his arrest last Friday, which triggered widespread outrage and accusations of attempts to silence free speech.

Sources within the commission revealed that several charges are being prepared against the activist, mostly based on petitions accusing him of cyberstalking and related offences.

Since his arrest, the detention of VeryDarkMan has stirred heated conversations both online and offline, with many accusing the anti-graft agency of targeting dissenting voices while hiding under the cover of legal enforcement.

On Monday, a group of protesters took to the streets of Abuja, demanding his unconditional release.

The demonstrators gathered in the Wuse area, carrying placards with inscriptions like “Free VDM!” and “End selective justice!”

VeryDarkMan, well known for his blunt views on political and social matters, was arrested by EFCC operatives on Friday, May 2. As of the time of filing this report, the commission is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
