BREAKING: Gov Sheriff Oborevwori, Okowa, major stakeholders dump PDP for APC in Delta

In a surprising turn in Nigeria’s political landscape, Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement came on Wednesday evening after a closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba.
Confirming the development, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, stated that the decision followed “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”
In a similar move, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s defection was also made public the same day by Senator James Manager, following a marathon six-hour meeting at the Government House.
Senator Manager revealed that the entire leadership of the PDP in Delta State, including Governor Oborevwori, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, and all local government chairmen, had collectively resolved to join the APC. “We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat,” Manager declared.
The decision, according to party insiders, came after wide consultations with political stakeholders and was described as a step taken in the interest of Delta State’s long-term growth and stability.
Oborevwori, who clinched the governorship seat in the 2023 elections on the PDP platform, was warmly received by senior APC officials in Delta State.
Political observers have described the defection as a calculated move that could reshape the political direction of the South-South state and carry weighty implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
More to come.
