Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, who represents the Kano South Senatorial District, has officially confirmed his exit from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

According to the lawmaker, his decision to leave the party was driven by his strong commitment to the wellbeing of the people he represents.

The senator made this known through a post on his official Facebook page.

When contacted via text message to verify the information, he responded, “Yes, it is true.”

“The reports regarding my defection are accurate.”

“All politics is local, and my primary concern has always been, and remains, the welfare of my immediate constituency.”

Sumaila explained that his move was motivated by his desire to better the lives of his constituents and guarantee a brighter future for them.

In his words, “I am resolutely determined to advance the lives of my people, ensuring their needs are met and their future is secured.”

Although he has yet to reveal which political party he intends to join next, the senator’s defection is seen as a significant shift in Kano’s political scene, where such moves often reflect deeper issues within party structures and could influence future elections.

It will be recalled that News360 Nigeria earlier reported Sumaila’s fallout with the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP.

The senator, alongside Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Ali Madakin Gini, was recently suspended by the NNPP under the leadership of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

However, they all dismissed the suspension, insisting they did not belong to the faction that carried out the disciplinary action.
