BREAKING: One feared dead, another injured as explosion rocks Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja

An explosion suspected to be caused by an explosive device claimed one life and left another person injured on Monday in Abuja.

An eyewitness, a military officer who chose to remain anonymous, told ait.live at the scene that the victim, believed to be a suicide bomber, was killed by an explosive concealed inside a rubber can close to Mogadishu Barracks.

However, military authorities present at the site stated that the incident might have resulted from an explosive phone device, not necessarily an improvised explosive device (IED).

As of the time of filing this report, security operatives including the military, Department of State Services (DSS), police, and officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were still working to assess the situation.

Media personnel were, however, barred from taking photographs or video recordings at the scene.
