BREAKING: Pope Francis dies at 88

Pope Francis passed away on Monday at the age of 88, just one day after he made a surprise appearance at Saint Peter’s Square during Easter celebrations, the Vatican has confirmed.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced the Pope’s passing in a statement released via the Vatican’s official Telegram channel. “Dearest brothers and sisters, it is with deep sorrow that I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis,” he stated. “This morning at 7:35 am (0535 GMT), the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His church.”
The Pope’s death comes only a day after he greeted worshippers with a heartfelt “Happy Easter” and delivered his traditional Urbi et Orbi blessing — meaning “To the City and the World” — from the balcony of Saint Peter’s Basilica. Despite recovering from a serious illness, he appeared in public and called for freedom of thought and tolerance in his message.
Earlier this year, Pope Francis had faced life-threatening health challenges, including two critical episodes of pneumonia. He spent 38 days in hospital before being discharged on March 23.
His brief but joyful appearance on Easter Sunday brought hope to many, making the news of his passing just hours later even more heartbreaking for millions around the world.
