BREAKING: Senate approves Tinubu’s request for state of emergency in Rivers

The Senate has officially approved President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, aligning with the House of Representatives in exercising its constitutional authority under the amended 1999 Constitution.
With this approval, President Tinubu has the legal backing to enforce emergency measures in the state, while the National Assembly retains the power to review the situation at any time, but no later than six months.
To oversee governance during this period, the National Assembly has constituted a joint committee from both chambers. Additionally, the Senate has resolved to form a mediation committee comprising notable Nigerians to help mediate the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
Further developments on the situation are expected.
