BREAKING: Senate moves to set up LG Electoral Commission

Following the financial autonomy granted to local governments in Nigeria, the Senate has initiated steps to establish the Local Government Independent Electoral Commission.

The upper house commenced the process on Thursday by introducing a Bill aimed at creating a federal agency responsible for conducting local government elections across the country.

The Bill scaled first reading in the Senate on Thursday.

The Bill titled, “Local Government Independent Electoral Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2024” was sponsored by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, (APC – Niger East).
