BREAKING: Supreme Court sacks Rivers LG chairmen

The Supreme Court has invalidated the Rivers State local government election conducted on October 5, 2024, citing gross violations of the Electoral Act.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Jamilu Tukur ruled that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) failed to adhere to proper electoral procedures, rendering the election null and void.
The court noted that RSIEC violated electoral guidelines by continuing voter registration even after announcing the election date. It further held that the processes leading to the election were flawed, contravening Section 150 of the Electoral Act.
