BREAKING: Ten feared dead, others injured as building collapses in Ibadan
In a tragic incident, at least 10 people lost their lives when a building collapsed in the early hours of Thursday at Jegede Olorunsogo, located in Ona Ara Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The collapse reportedly occurred around 2 a.m., prompting swift emergency response efforts.
The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, Rev. Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed that the agency received distress calls from residents shortly after the incident. Firefighters and rescue teams were deployed immediately, managing to save seven individuals from the rubble.
Rescue operations are ongoing, as officials work to ensure no other victims are trapped beneath the debris. The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation, with authorities urging residents to prioritize building safety standards to prevent future tragedies.
According to him, “May I inform you that Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at around 2 am this morning at Jegede Olunloyo area, Ibadan, of which 10 persons has been recovered from the debris of the collapsed building, while 7 persons rescued alive.
“Rescue operation is still going on.”
