Thugs stormed the Edo State High Court in Benin on Monday, attempting to disrupt the pre-hearing session on the validity of the September 21 governorship election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The attack occurred as supporters of seven political parties challenging the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) victory gathered at the court. Unidentified individuals launched the assault outside the courtroom, creating panic among attendees.

In a swift response, security agents secured the court premises, blocking the entrance and setting up roadblocks along routes leading to the court to prevent further disruption.

The governorship election case has sparked heightened tensions, with various political factions contesting the results. The court proceedings continue under tight security as stakeholders await the final ruling.
