A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday night at the Kankara General Hospital in Katsina State, North-West Nigeria, as rampaging bandits invaded the facility, leaving a trail of violence in their wake.

During the attack, a medical doctor, identified as Murtala Saleh, sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh. Another victim, Kamala Suleiman, suffered a knee injury.

Both individuals are currently receiving medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition, according to the police.

Abubakar Aliyu, the state police spokesperson, disclosed that officers in the area engaged the assailants, armed with AK-47 rifles, in a gun battle.

Despite their efforts, three people were abducted by the marauders during the raid.

“Efforts are being made to ensure the unhurt rescue of the kidnapped victims as well as the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act,” he said in a statement Wednesday.

The Commissioner of Police in the state Aliyu Musa, who condemned the “senseless attack on healthcare workers and facilities”, ordered the deployment of additional operational assets to the scene for improved security and an intensified manhunt for the assailants.
