The resumed sitting of the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Monday, February 10, 2025, took a dramatic turn as a witness for Governor Monday Okpebholo crumbled under intense cross-examination by the petitioners’ lawyers.

Governor Okpebholo’s victory in the September 21, 2024, election is being challenged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.

A key witness, Usman Majek, from Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa’s Ovia South West LGA, made a shocking admission of over-voting during the election.

The unexpected confession rattled Okpebholo’s legal team, forcing his lawyer to abruptly close his case after presenting just one witness.

Caught off guard, the All Progressives Congress (APC) legal team, which was next to present its case, requested an adjournment to reassess their strategy.

The tribunal granted the plea and adjourned proceedings until Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
