The reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philips Shaibu, announced on Friday that he considers himself an unofficial member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shaibu clarified that he remains formally affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but has not yet formally cut ties with the party.

He spoke while appearing on Arise Television’s programme, Morning Show.

The embattled deputy governor explained his support for the APC governorship candidate in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, by stating that he no longer aligns with the PDP.

He said: “In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party.”

Recall that Shaibu had donated campaign vehicles to Okpebholo recently.

The donation came amid his face-off with Governor Godwin Obaseki, which led to his impeachment as deputy governor.

However, an Abuja Federal High Court had reinstated Shaibu as deputy governor on Thursday.
