Edo Queens made a statement in their CAF Women’s Champions League opener, securing a decisive 3-0 victory over Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC.

This marks the Nigerian champions’ first-ever win in the competition, a feat achieved at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday evening.

The match started off strong for Edo Queens, with Emem Essien scoring the team’s debut goal in the fifth minute, expertly finishing a cross from Folashade Ijamilusi.

Essien’s goal not only gave her team an early lead but also secured her place in club history as the first to score for Edo Queens in the prestigious continental competition.

Following halftime, Ijamilusi added a second goal, skillfully striking into the roof of the net after a well-executed play with teammate Esther Moses.

This performance follows Ijamilusi’s recent success, where she scored a hat trick on her Super Falcons debut in October.

Chukwuamaka Osigwe rounded off the scoring to seal a memorable 3-0 victory for Edo Queens, underscoring the NWFL champions’ potential to make an impact in this year’s Champions League.

In the 80th minute, substitute Osigwe put the game to bed with Moses, who also assisted the 17-year-old in finishing eloquently to ensure Edo Queens’ emphatic victory.

Edo Queens are at the top of Group B of the competition and will face Egypt’s FC Masar on Wednesday before playing Mamelodi Sundown on November 17.
