EFCC arrests former Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over alleged financial fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly detained Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the immediate past governor of Delta State, on charges of misappropriating and embezzling billions of naira during his time in office.
The arrest reportedly took place at the EFCC’s Port Harcourt Zonal Office in Rivers State, although an official statement from the commission is yet to confirm these developments.
Okowa, who served as governor from 2015 to 2019, was also the vice-presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections. Before his governorship, Okowa, a medical doctor by training, represented Delta North in the Senate from 2011 to 2019 and previously held the position of Secretary to the Delta State Government.
More to come.
