The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited Subomi and Wahab Okoya, sons of billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya, for questioning following a viral video allegedly showing them abusing the naira.

The video depicts the brothers spraying naira notes at an event, with a police officer holding bundles of cash.

Their actions allegedly violate Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which prohibits tampering with or abusing the national currency.

The Nigerian Police have since identified and detained the officer seen in the footage, condemning his behavior as unprofessional.

However, social media users have called for equal treatment of the Okoya brothers, accusing authorities of a double standard.

The EFCC has responded by summoning the brothers for interrogation. According to a report by TheCable, the invitation was signed by Michael Wetkas, acting director of the Lagos directorate of the EFCC.

The Okoya siblings are expected to appear before the commission’s Special Operations Team at its office on 15A Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025.
