Ekiti State Chief Judge, Justice John Adeyeye is dead

The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at a tertiary health facility in Ekiti after a brief illness.

Though specific details of his passing remain undisclosed, sources confirmed he had been hospitalized for a short period.

Justice Adeyeye, who was born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi, Ekiti East Local Government Area, was called to the bar in 1986. His legal career began as a State Counsel in the former Ondo State Civil Service, before moving to the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission after the state’s creation in 1996. He rose to the High Court bench in 2002 and gained extensive experience serving on various election petition tribunals.

Appointed Chief Judge by former Governor Kayode Fayemi, he was sworn in on October 11, 2021, bringing over three decades of legal expertise to his role. His sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the judiciary and the state, as colleagues and residents mourn the loss of an esteemed jurist and leader.
