Election officials, materials absence mars Anambra LG polls

As the Anambra State local government elections were set to commence today, officials from the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) are yet to arrive at several polling units across the state.

Despite ANSIEC’s announcement that voting would begin at 8:00 a.m. and close by 4:00 p.m., by 8:50 a.m., there was no sign of election activity in many parts of the state.

Polling units visited by our correspondent, including Aroma ward 3, Odoagba ward 1, and a polling unit at Unizik Junction, showed no presence of ANSIEC officials or election materials.

In Ogbaru Local Government Area, an observer, Mr. Agbo Kenneth Chidiebere, reported that at the Iyiowa/Odekpe polling units, the situation was the same.

“No ANSIEC Ad-hoc staff, security personnel, or electoral materials have arrived at the polling unit. Only one party agent from APGA is here at the moment,” he informed journalists.

The delays have raised concerns about the smooth conduct of the elections, with many voters still waiting at polling units.
