Enough is Enough, Tinubu orders security strategy overhaul, demands end to killings in Plateau, Benue, Others

President Bola Tinubu has given a fresh directive for the immediate restructuring of national security strategies, calling for urgent and decisive steps to end the rising violence in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states.
This order was made known through a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, where the President strongly condemned the ongoing attacks on innocent Nigerians.
During a security meeting held at the State House in Abuja, which lasted over two hours, President Tinubu made it clear to his service chiefs that the senseless killings must stop.
“Enough is enough,” the President reportedly told them as he was briefed on the situation in the affected areas, including the number of casualties and the extent of property destruction.
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, while addressing newsmen, revealed that President Tinubu had remained actively involved, even while on official visits to Paris and London, closely monitoring the security situation and issuing instructions.
“Mr President gave us the chance to come and brief him again. It lasted very long. We gave him an update on what was going on.
Even when he was out there, he was constantly in touch, giving directives and following developments,” Ribadu said.
He further explained that the latest meeting provided an opportunity to update the President on actions taken so far and the current state of security in the country.
According to Ribadu, the President tasked them to work even harder to restore peace.
He said, “We gave him information on what has been happening and assured him of our commitment.”
“We had carried out his instructions.”
“We went to places with incidences of insecurity, such as Plateau, Benue, and Borno States.”
“We gave him feedback because he had directed us earlier to go and meet with the political authorities there.”
The NSA also pointed out that President Tinubu emphasized the importance of involving local government authorities and state governments in addressing security issues, noting that the real challenges often exist at the grassroots level.”
“The issue of insecurity often is not just at the higher levels.”
“It involves the subunits. They are the ones who are directly with the people, especially when some of the challenges border on community problems. We need to work with the communities. We need to work with the local governments, and we need to work with the governors,” he explained.
Ribadu disclosed that the President was visibly worried throughout the meeting, repeating that “Enough is enough,” while giving further instructions to security operatives.
He assured that the combined efforts of the armed forces, police, intelligence agencies, and other security bodies are being intensified to restore peace.
According to the NSA, the attackers mostly target innocent citizens by planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and carrying out assaults in poorly governed areas.
