EPL: Brighton overturn Tottenham with a 3-2 comeback
Tottenham squandered a two-goal lead on Sunday as Brighton mounted a sensational comeback to claim a 3-2 victory.
Brennan Johnson opened the scoring for Spurs in the 25th minute, finishing off Dominic Solanke’s precise pass for his sixth goal in as many matches.
James Maddison added a second in the 37th minute with a shot that slipped past Brighton’s goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically after the break. In the 48th minute, Yankuba Minteh capitalized on a poor clearance from Destiny Udogie to pull one back for Brighton.
Ten minutes later, Georginio Rutter danced past three Tottenham defenders to slot in a cool finish from Kaoru Mitoma’s pass, leveling the score.
The comeback was completed when Danny Welbeck was left unmarked to head home Rutter’s cross in the 66th minute.
This loss, Tottenham’s third in seven Premier League games, raises fresh concerns about manager Ange Postecoglou’s reluctance to adjust his attacking style, as his side’s defensive vulnerabilities were once again exposed.
