EPL: Manchester United secures 3-0 win over Southampton in early kickoff

Marcus Rashford ended his 12-game goal drought as Manchester United triumphed 3-0 against Southampton in their Premier League clash on Saturday.

The forward’s strike, his first since March, doubled United’s lead after Matthijs de Ligt opened the scoring with his debut goal for the club.

Substitute Alejandro Garnacho sealed the victory with a late goal in stoppage time.

The win was a much-needed boost for United, who had suffered back-to-back defeats in a poor start to the season. Rashford’s goal came in the 41st minute, curling a shot from the edge of the box, helping Erik ten Hag’s side regain confidence at Saint Mary’s.

De Ligt, who joined United from Bayern Munich in the off-season, headed in from Bruno Fernandes’ cross in the 35th.

It was a much-needed with for United after losses to Brighton and Liverpool in the first three games of the season. But it could have been a different story if Cameron Archer had converted a penalty for Southampton in the 33rd. Instead, his effort was saved by goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Newly promoted Southampton was reduced to 10-men when Jack Stephens was sent off in the 79th for a high challenge on Garnacho.
