Ex-Abia Assembly Speaker Kennedy Njoku dumps PDP, joins APC
Rt. Hon. Bishop Kennedy Azubuike Njoku, a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.
Njoku, who previously represented Osisioma Ngwa North State Constituency in the 7th Assembly, stepped down as Speaker after the PDP decided to allow Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, son of Abia’s former governor, to assume the position.
Speaking to supporters at his home in Mbutu Nta village, Osisioma Local Government Area, Njoku explained that his defection followed wide consultations with constituents and stakeholders.
“I am grateful to the PDP for the opportunities they provided me and wish them well in their future endeavours,” Njoku stated.
He encouraged his supporters to join him in the APC, emphasizing the value of hard work with the Igbo adage, “Onye ruo, ya erie” (He who works, eats).
Njoku assured his supporters that his decision was aimed at securing a brighter future for Osisioma Ngwa North and Abia State as a whole.
Prominent stakeholders, including Comr. Odimegwu Aruru, Chief of Staff to the Bishop Campaign Organization; Comr. Emmanuel Nduagu, former President of Osisioma Ngwa Youth Congress; and Hon. Austin Uruakpa, former leader of Osisioma Ngwa Legislative Council, expressed their full support for Njoku’s move.
They called on supporters to register as APC members in their wards, describing the defection as a sign of hope for the masses.
Comr. Oliver Christian, a youth leader from Isiala Osokwa Ward 6, gave a vote of thanks, commending Njoku’s decision, pledging unwavering support, and praying for God’s blessings on the former lawmaker and his supporters.
