Former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Director-General of the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief George Moghalu, has officially joined the Labour Party (LP) and picked up the party’s governorship nomination form for the upcoming Anambra State election.

Moghalu, who previously vied for the APC governorship ticket in 2021 but lost to Senator Andy Uba in a controversial primary election, is now set to challenge Governor Chukwuma Soludo under the LP platform.

Speaking after receiving the nomination form from Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, on Tuesday, Moghalu expressed confidence in his chances of emerging as the party’s candidate and vowed to uphold the party’s trust in him.

“I have confidence that the party leadership will provide us a platform for fair contestation. This is not a war, but at the end of the day, one person will fly the Labour Party’s flag in Anambra State, and I strongly believe I will be that person,” he said.

On the internal crisis within the Labour Party, Moghalu dismissed concerns, stating that Peter Obi and other key stakeholders would work with him if he secures the ticket.

Explaining his decision to leave APC, Moghalu said it was a well-thought-out move after consulting with his constituents and political allies.

“Many people who know me were surprised that I changed my political platform because I have remained loyal to one party since the beginning of this political dispensation. But after extensive consultations, I realized that the Labour Party is the best option for me,” he stated.

In response, Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, thanked Moghalu for having confidence in the party and assured him of a level playing field in the upcoming governorship primary in Awka, Anambra State.
